Biography

Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, Misha Pekar has been an integral part of Charleston’s vibrant music scene from a young age. A versatile pianist, music director, accompanist, and multi-instrumentalist, he seamlessly blends classical, jazz, and contemporary styles, bringing adaptability and artistry to every performance.

A graduate of the College of Charleston with degrees in Arts Management and Classical Piano Performance, Misha has worked with organizations such as Charleston Stage, Charleston Opera Theatre, Holy City Arts and Lyric Opera, Charleston Jazz Orchestra, and the North Charleston POPS! Some recent performance highlights include a recital series of Spanish trumpet music with Antonio Marti, the 2025 Gardner-Webb University BrassFest with Phil Smith and Tim Hudson, performing at the 2024 Spoleto Festival USA’s Opening Night Gala alongside Denis O’Hare and John Cameron Mitchell, as well as appearances with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra.

As a music director, Misha has led productions for organizations such as PURE Theatre, Queen Street Playhouse, and What If? Productions, including Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years with Manny Houston and Heather Rice. His work as a multi-instrumentalist and accompanist has spanned Broadway national tours, opera, and regional theater pit orchestras, showcasing his exceptional range and expertise.

Dedicated to both performance and education, Misha currently teaches piano at Ashley Hall School. Whether on stage, in the pit, or in the classroom, he continues to shape Charleston’s musical landscape with passion and excellence.
